27th September, 2008 - The Cellars - Eastney

We had not seen the Trevor John Band for some time and went along on Saturday 27th September to the Eastney Cellars, along with various members of our family and lots of friends. We always have a great evening when we see them and have been following them for quite a number of years!

The pub, an intimate venue, was packed and on this particular night the band were superb!  A friend remarked that they were "awesome" and they were.  They did Pink Floyd numbers which were outstanding with "Trevor on Guitar" and Trevor John's voice was as pure as it always is!  "All along the Watch Tower" was brilliant and they played a lot of our old favorites and some new ones too.

The crowd were unwilling to let them go and they played three encores and must have been exhausted at the end!  Thanks also to Dave on bass and the drummer Martin who were superb. I can't remember when we enjoyed a band so much and can't wait to see them back at the Cellars again on Saturday 29th November.

Carole and Pete Bannister and a lot of other Bannisters and friends too!

5th August, 2002 - Gig Base - The Cellars, Portsmouth

...Many venues do not have a Public Entertainment Licence and are restricted to hosting acts with a maximum of two artists. Can a solo artist, or a duet, cut the mustard against a full band? Gig Base decided to find out by heading for The Cellars to review the Trevor John Duo. Trevor John is a name that has been in these listings many times over the last few months and venues always give a positive thumbs up when asked about their performance...

17th June, 2000 - inthelimelight.co.uk - Herriard

...The band turned out to be one of the best I have ever heard including the many professional bands I have seen! The band was formed just over four years ago. Trevor John was a soloist at the time. Trevor Parsons (Lead Guitar), Jez Shipton (Lead Guitar/Keyboard) and Dave Warwick (Bass Guitar) had their own band called "The Rock Bottom Blues Band". Drummer Simon Gray was in a band called "Annie Hates Cordial" who were Portsmouth "Battle of the Bands" winners...

...If you have not heard the Trevor John Band perform, I would seriously suggest it. The whole performance could be described as faultless. Trevor John's voice could knock spots off some of the singers the band did cover versions of. The guitarists were brilliant and the drummer played with such energy if made you feel faint...

23rd July, 1999 - Guildford Festival - Monocle

...He's been a soloist for six years and previously was a member of the US rock band Pegasus. It was with them that he performed in the Singapore version of Live Aid. Music is in this family and he taught himself the guitar while in the army regulars of this home country Singapore. Now Trevor has his own following and enjoys playing in more relaxed venues. "Those that want to hear will hear..." Trevor has his heart in music...

...Trevor John is in fact one man as well as being a band: how profound!...

...Trevor's voice was somewhere between Paul Simon and Mark Owen, which isn't too surprising as I found out that Trevor was a big fan of Paul Simon as well as James Taylor and Neil Young...
